Saturday Morning “Industry” Road Ride

Jose dubbed our morning road ride the Industry Loop to give it a sense of ease and familiarity and most importantly, to keep the speeds down. His plan worked! We kept things mellow (16.3 mph average) and Brantley kept things erratic with his constant swerving and non-line-holding. Dana’s husband (whose name escapes me, but I think it was either Brian or Pope Bartholomew The Chaste) rode along with us and got to experience Brantley’s stream of consciousness rants in person. “This guy makes Jame Joyce read like a Jackie Collins romance!” One more reason we don’t let first timers carry cyanide pills in their jersey pockets or the roads would be littered with lycra-clad corpses…

Here we are rolling through bucolic Gilbert, SC. Lots of traffic for a Saturday morning so not many chances for snaps. This road was one of the few with descent paving. What’s up Lexington county? Buncha road maintenance tightwads. I kid! I kid!

Dana shows off some of the hill climbing technique that earned her the nickname “Over The Hill” in the sales office. Well, I’m pretty sure that’s her nickname. Either that or “Jade Phoenix Claw Lovelace” but you can never be sure. Check out the purple wind sock she’s wearing to assist her resistance training. Now that is dedication.

Acres and acres of cilantro fields filled the air with a fragrant aroma that conjured images of greasy Mexican food and grain silo-sized flagons of Dos Equis. The white boxes mean, these will be at your local Publix in approximately 6 hours….

More cilantro, more of Dana’s wind sock now turned flag…

Jose checks his precious Garmin for ride data and restaurant recommendations. He rides red and wears it. He’s well red.

Last but not least, the Virginia Woolf of industry group rides and everybody’s favorite millenarian Highlander, Brantley!
